Alabama safety epitomizing resiliency of Tide: “I call him a bad MF because that’s what he is”

Alabama football’s safety, Bray Hubbard has earned the status of being recognized as a defensive playmaker and a ‘bad MF’ by his teammates.

“I mean, he’s just a ballplayer,” Lawson said after Alabama beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl. “I call him a bad MF because that’s what he is. He always finding a way to get the ball out, and I think this the third time that he caused a fumble and I recovered it. We got a little special connection.”

Hubbard was his normal self during the Crimson Tide’s victory over Auburn. He forced two turnovers, including an interception and a forced fumble. The fumble helped seal the Tide’s victory over the Tigers.

The versatile defender is a key member of the Alabama defense because of the many ways Alabama’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack likes to use him. There is a great chance he will be seen playing as the last line of defense at times for the Alabama’s defensive unit and other times he is seen playing on the second level inside of the box as basically a linebacker when the down and distance is in Alabama’s favor.

Playing close to the line of scrimmage is something Hubbard actually loves to do.

“I love doing it,” Hubbard said earlier this season. “I love being able to show up on the run and get some big hits on the running backs and play the box a little bit. But then I also get to play the pass. So, you know, I enjoy it. The thing it is to me is that I can do a lot of different things. I can play the pass, I can play the run, like playing down there.”

Kalen DeBoer praised Hubbard in his press conference after Alabama beat Auburn in classic Iron Bowl fashion. DeBoer feels the safety has epitomized the resilience the Crimson Tide has shown this season.

“He’s just tough,” DeBoer said. “He’s resilient, and he’s, to me, one of the many guys that epitomizes what I’m proud of our team about. Just goes to work every day. Has a mindset. It means so much to him. He’s gonna be a great teammate and give everything he has out there.”

Alabama will need Hubbard to be the same ‘bad MF’ as the Tide looks to stay in control of its own destiny on the path to a possible run at a National Championship. The next step towards this goal will be against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Saturday.
