The trap road game a former Alabama football quarterback is worried about

Former Alabama football quarterback, AJ McCarron feels the Crimson Tide’s road game against Mississippi State is a trap game.

The Tide takes on the Bulldogs in Starkville for its fifth game of the 2026 football season. The game will mark the first time the two programs have faced off in football since 2023. McCarron feels the game is one worth paying close attention to as a potential trap week.

“I keep bringing it up, but the one that worries me is the Mississippi State because it’s early and on the road,” McCarron said on “The Dynasty Podcast.” “That’s a trap game. They’ve been playing well the last couple of years.”

The game is expected to be an 11 a.m. kickoff. Trent Richardson, a former Alabama running back, feels the matchup reminds him of when South Carolina defeated Alabama in 2010.

“When you got that game so early, like AJ said, it can creep up on you and set you up for failure,” Richardson said. “We got set up like that playing against South Carolina. That was an early kickoff and we just mentally we was still in 2009 partying, but at the same time, that early game, man, that SEC. It is tough.”

Alabama defeated the Bulldogs 40-17 the last time they played in 2023.
