On Tuesday, Alabama captain and starting safety Bray Hubbard shared his thoughts on Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey as the Crimson Tide prepare to face him and the Wildcats in Lexington.
“He’s a great player,” Hubbard said. “He did a good job at Notre Dame. I think he was fighting for the job there and was the backup. But when you watch the tape from Notre Dame, he can spin it.
“Even last week, watching their game [against Youngstown State], he’s got great arm strength, accuracy. He knows the system, plays in the system well. He’s got a great front in front of him. Tight ends are great, receivers are great; he’s just a really good quarterback.”
Like Hubbard mentioned, Minchey transferred from Notre Dame to Kentucky this offseason, and the 6-foot-2, 211-pound Tennessee native looked solid in his first start as the starting quarterback for Kentucky. Against Youngstown State, Minchey threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Also, he briefly showcased what he can do as a runner when he ran for 17 yards on his only rushing attempt of the game.
Alabama opens SEC play on the road against Kentucky this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT, and the game will air on ABC.
