During last Saturday’s game versus South Carolina, two Alabama offensive linemen sustained injuries, and head coach Kalen DeBoer provided an injury update for each of them.
Left guard William Sanders and right tackle Jayvin James suffered injuries against the Gamecocks.
“Yeah, Will [Sanders], upper body injury during the game,” DeBoer said. “I would expect that he would be able to play on Saturday, so, working through it here, but I would expect that he’ll be ready to go. Just kind of depends on what the week looks like. Then, Jayvin, lower-extremity, I would say he’s very much questionable at this time, so we’ll see how the next 24 to 48 hours go, and I think that will help kinda understand what that looks like at the end of the week, but I would say he’s very questionable at this time to play.”
At left guard, Mal Waldrep Jr. is the backup. He’s played at times this season and started at left guard versus Kentucky when Sanders had to bump over to right guard to replace an injured Michael Carroll. If Sanders is good to go, he’ll play, but Waldrep Jr. could rotate in like he’s done at times this season.
When it comes to the right tackle position, the update DeBoer provided on James was not promising. Two guys can play the right tackle position if he’s absent. Texas transfer Nick Brooks is available as a reserve offensive tackle, and Tyrell Miller, the player that replaced James on Saturday, is also available. Miller played three games at the College of San Mateo before finding his way to the Crimson Tide, and the freshman offensive tackle stepped up against the Gamecocks when James went down.
Alabama will play at Mississippi State on Saturday. The game is set for 11 a.m. CT, and it will broadcast on ABC.
