Who will start at center for Alabama if Racin Delgatty is out vs. Tennessee?

Alabama Offensive Lineman Mal Waldrep Jr. (52) during practice at Hank Crisp Indoor Facility in Tuscaloosa, AL on Sunday, Aug 16, 2026.

The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a heartbreaking 20-17 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs at Bryant-Denny Stadium this weekend.

The Tide lost a handful of key players to injury during the contest as well. Star wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams exited Saturday’s contest in the second half with a head injury, while center Racin Delgatty went down on the final drive of the game.

Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb took a moment to comment on Delgatty’s injury, as Grubb claims Mal Waldrep Jr. will be the next man up at the position if Delgatty is unable to play against Tennessee.

“That’d be Mal.” Grubb said. “That’d be Mal. We’re hopeful, we’ll see what happens. They braced it up at the end, but we’ll see. You know, I know Jeff is working his tail off to see what we can get, but yeah, Mal takes a ton of reps there. Does a really good job. Smart, tough, dependable. He’ll do a good job there.”

Delgatty has played at an extremely high level over the first 6 weeks of the 2026 campaign. The talented center has played a critical role in Keelon Russell’s success to begin the year, and Waldrep appears to be the next man up should Delgatty be sidelined on the road in Knoxville this weekend.
