Alabama DB says the defense must do this against LSU, Kiffin

Alabama football will face LSU this Saturday in Baton Rouge, and senior defensive back Bray Hubbard talked about LSU’s offense ahead of the anticipated conference game.

Hubbard was asked about the Crimson Tide’s preparation heading into this game and what areas the team is focusing in on to be ready for Lane Kiffin and the LSU offense.

“I think Coach Kiffin and their offensive coordinator do a good job of trying to figure out what the defense is in and try to make their calls based off of what we’re in, so that’s part of the tempo and stuff like that,” Hubbard said. “We got to do a great job disguising and making sure they can’t just tip our coverages off of just our alignment, so I think that’s something that will be a big part of the game. Not letting them see what coverage we’re in and just being able to disguise out of different looks.”

According to Hubbard, it sounds like Kiffin and his staff are exceptional at recognizing coverages, and the Alabama defense is going to try to make sure the Tigers are unable to figure out Alabama’s coverage.

In the Crimson Tide’s most recent game, they defeated Texas A&M 31-20, but early in the contest, the Aggies were gashing Alabama with slants and routes over the middle of the field. If defensive coordinator Kane Wommack really believes that teams answer for what is put on tape, the Crimson Tide should expect to be tested underneath if they play soft coverage.

Wommack said on Monday that he believes he coached against Lane Kiffin in a bowl game when Wommack was on staff at Indiana a handful of seasons ago. Wommack has not coached against Lane Kiffin since taking the Alabama defensive coordinator job in 2024, so this game on Saturday will be an interesting one to pay attention to.

Alabama football will play LSU in Baton Rouge this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
