DePriest was selected in the second round by Team Cottrell, a group led by former NFL coach Ted Cottrell. He was a member of two Southeastern Conference championships (2012, 2014) and two national titles (2011, 2012) during his time at Alabama from 2011-14.

DePriest recorded 189 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, two sacks, five pass breakups, four quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles at Alabama.
