Alabama is in the mix for one of the top pro-style quarterbacks in the 2018 recruiting class.
Tanner McKee, a California native, told yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine that the Crimson Tide are high on his radar. ESPN and 247 sports both have him listed as a four-star recruit. 247 Sports has him ranked as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback. McKee possesses great presence in the pocket. This prospect is a perfect example of a pocket passer, as displays the accuracy that allows him to fit passes into tight windows.
“I like Bama and I am getting great energy from them. Talk to them all the time,” McKee said.
Alabama has had quite a few great pro-style quaterbacks play under Nick Saban, and all of them would go on to have some impressive careers during their time in Tuscaloosa. AJ McCaron, a pro-style quaterback, probably the most successful Tide signal caller in the Saban era, if we are counting national titles.
Alabama’s offense has made the transition into more of a spread style, which makes it more suited to get a guy who can be a dual threat. Jalen Hurts is a product of that change. A pro-style quarterback could make the Tide more effective in the pass game.
Many quarterbacks may start to really reconsider going to Alabama after all of the recent transfers. Fellow California native, Blake Barnett, was one of those guys that decided to leave the program. Fortunately, McKee feels it does not change the way he feels about Alabama. When asked how does it affect the way he views Alabama, McKee simply responded with, “Not at all, your going to have to compete wherever you go”.
Alabama does not have a quarterback commit for their 2018 recruiting class, but McKee could be their guy.
