Contract details and jersey number revealed for rookie QB Jalen Hurts

Brian Spurlock - USA TODAY Sports

He is returning to his roots.

For Jalen Hurts, the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback had a big announcement on Wednesday and he decided to let the world in on it via Twitter. After being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the NFL Draft, the native Texan is going back to the number he wore at Channelview High School and in three years with the Crimson Tide: No. 2.

With two different schools, Hurts became the first signal caller of the College Football Playoff era to lead two programs to the playoff. He earned a host of accolades from both institutions and was a conference champion. Hurts was on Alabama’s 2017 national championship squad and earned two SEC title rings. He pushed the Sooners to a Big 12 Championship and was a finalist for the Heisman Memorial Trophy last year. The 6-foot-1, 222-pounder totaled 12,750 career yards (passing and rushing) and 124 touchdowns combined between Alabama and Oklahoma.

According to Spotrac, Hurts has a four-year contract worth $6 million.

His signing bonus is $1.9 million and he is set to make $1.1 million this season.

Much commotion has been made about the Eagles’ decision to draft him, but Hurts is prepared to show the front office that it made the right choice.
