Kalen DeBoer is attracting coaches that know the south and the Southeastern Conference to join him at Alabama.

His latest hire has played and coached in the SEC.

Kivon Coman, an alumnus of Mississippi State University, announced on social media he is joining the Crimson Tide as a graduate assistant for defensive backs. Coman, a native of Sheffield, Ala., was a defensive back for the Bulldogs from 2013 to 2016, playing in 49 career games with 23 starts. He was a starter in his junior and senior seasons, posting 188 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups, and three interceptions in his career. Coman helped MSU to a 10-win season in 2014 at Starkville.

He also served as Jahlil Hurley's coach at Florence (Ala.) High School. Hurley, a redshirt freshman, came to the Crimson Tide in its 2023 signing class as a highly coveted four-star prospect. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder was a star at Florence and under Coman, he recorded 56 tackles, five interceptions, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery during his senior year.

Hurley can play safety or cornerback, but he fits the boundary corner role for the Tide. The addition of Coman as a grad assistant gives Hurley someone he is familiar with. Coman can help in recruiting with his ties to the state and knowledge of the SEC.
