Alabama senior cornerback Cyrus Jones finally got the respect due to him.
He was awarded the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, following a dominant performance against Charleston Southern. Jones totaled 115 return yards, which puts him at fifth-most all-time. Prior to last week, former player Christion Jones (2013) had the most recent punt return touchdown.
Cyrus Jones returned two for scores against the Buccaneers at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
He ended the first quarter on a 43-yard punt return touchdown and returned in the second quarter with another one of 72 yards. Jones displayed strong vision, quickness and patience on both scores
He became Alabama’s first player to return two punts for touchdowns in the same game and the first to return a punt for a score in back-to-back games (Mississippi State, two weeks ago). Jones now leads the nation with three punt return touchdowns. He is second nationally in total return yards with 403.
Jones and the Crimson Tide will battle Auburn this week in the 80th Iron Bowl.
