For those who thought Alabama offensive tackle Cameron Robinson and safety Laurence “Hootie” Jones would get away after dropped charges, the pinnacle of all things discipline thought otherwise.
District Attorney Jerry Jones refused to prosecute both players, due to “insufficient evidence” in cases involving weapons and drugs. Robinson and Jones were arrested back on May 17 on two misdemeanor counts, while Robinson was pinned with a felony charge of having an illegal firearm.
The two escape the Ouachita Parish courthouse (Monroe, La.) unscathed; however, coach Nick Saban has issued a punishment for both players. According to KNOE 8 News, Robinson and Jones have been indefinitely suspended since May 19 and are required to complete 20 hours of community service. Documents obtained by the site also state that both must attend university safety courses, multiple counseling sessions and a gun safety class with a Tuscaloosa police officer.
In addition to this, Robinson has to log in 26 hours of riding alongside the Northport Police Department while Jones must participate for 21 days in a drug rehabilitation program.
Nothing has been announced in regards to how many games could both guys miss, but knowing how much Saban would rather have his players learn from their mistakes—it may be a one-game suspension.
