These Are The Teams Who Should Sign AJ McCarron Right Now

via: Stan Szeto USA Today Sports

After just one season with the Oakland Raiders, quarterback AJ McCarron was released yesterday and will be searching for a new home for the 2019-20 season. The good news is in today’s NFL everyone needs to have two quarterbacks who are capable of playing and playing well.

Whether it’s taking over for an underperforming veteran or filling in for an injured player there are a myriad of reasons to have multiple options at quarterback. Here are the teams who should sign McCarron today.

 Arizona Cardinals

Whether the Cardinals draft a quarterback with the number one pick or stick with Josh Rosen there will be a need to sign a quarterback with experience. McCarron can fit in here nicely as a mentor to whichever young quarterback Arizona goes with. Before being released by the Raiders, the front office was trying to do what they could to figure out how to keep McCarron because of how good he was in the quarterback room. Having a high football I.Q. is invaluable at the quarterback position and can be very important in helping develop other young players.

Miami Dolphins

Now that the Dolphins have officially moved on from Ryan Tannehill they will likely be searching for a veteran to step right in and play. Who better to step right in then McCarron. While at times he has shown moments of being a pretty good player he hasn’t been given a true shot at playing a full 16 game season. Even if McCarron isn’t seen as the future he can at the very least not play worse the Tannehill did.

Washington Redskins

With the injury to Alex Smith, the starting quarterback spot is wide open in Washington. Colt McCoy isn’t the greatest option in the world and I think it’s safe to think McCarron will be able to give Case Keenum a real run at the starting spot. It is also no secret that head coach Jay Gruden and the rest of Washingtons’ front office really like adding Alabama players to their roster.

“They’re well coached. So when they come from Alabama, usually they’re ready to roll from a mental standpoint,” said Gruden.

Who knows, maybe McCarron can even help fill in until the 2020 draft where Washington will have the opportunity to draft Tua Tagovailoa.
