Former Alabama players are coming to Bryce Young’s defense as NFL Draft pundits continue talking about his height.

ESPN’s Todd McShay made a slight about Young’s size, stating he would be ‘scared to death to draft him’ if he was a general manager in the National Football League. McShay’s comment came after he had compared him to Patrick Mahomes. Reggie Ragland, a former Crimson Tide linebacker, blasted McShay on Twitter. The two-time national champion (2012, 2015) said ‘good thing you are not, lol,’ referring to McShay not being a GM for an NFL team. Ragland was a two-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection (2014, 2015), a Unanimous All-American (2015), and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Young became the Crimson Tide’s first quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in 2021. He set the school’s single-season record for passing yards (4,872), passing touchdowns (47), and total touchdowns (50) as a sophomore. He endured a shoulder injury last season to total 3,328 passing yards and 32 touchdown passes. Young guided Alabama to an SEC Championship in 2021 and an Allstate Sugar Bowl victory in 2022. He projects as the top quarterback in the draft class.
