Danny Lewis Jr.
Classification: Redshirt Freshman
Hometown: New Iberia, La.
Position: Tight End
Size: 6-5/255 pounds
2022 stats: Did not record any statistics in five games
Strengths: Elite size, athleticism, toughness, willing blocker, hands
Weaknesses: Lacks elite speed, needs more playing opportunities
Summary
Danny Lewis made headlines in the 2022 recruiting cycle, showing Brian Kelly that his dancing would not persuade him to remain in Louisiana and choose Louisiana State University as his school.
Lewis, a three-star, selected the University of Alabama. He was a red zone threat at Westgate High School and a hybrid tight end.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder played in five games last year, but he kept his redshirt. Lewis stepped up in Alabama’s spring game, totaling four receptions at Bryant-Denny Stadium. He carries elite size, athleticism, toughness, and hands. Lewis is also a willing blocker, despite not having elite speed. He can become a dangerous red zone target or a security blanket to move the chains.
Tommy Rees had success at Notre Dame with tight ends that had a size advantage. He has it again with Lewis.
