Breakdown of Alabama football’s early signing period wide receiver class

Alabama football will have an opportunity to sign another head-turning wide receiver class if they can hold onto five-star wide receiver, Ryan Williams, and get him to sign in February.

Without Williams officially on board, the Crimson Tide did manage to sign a talented group of young wide receivers Wednesday on National Signing Day.

Among this group is Amari Jefferson, who had a monster senior season and was named Tennessee’s Mr. Football for Division II-AAA. He finished the 2023 season with 74 receptions for 1,401 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The Tennessee product possesses a solid frame at 6-foot and 200 pounds. He creates separation with his route running ability at different progressions in his route as he can create space out of his release and when he is getting out of his breaks. His hands are consistent and even though he does not have game-breaking straight-line speed, he can make some plays in space with his ability to change directions as a ball carrier.

Rico Scott also signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at the University of Alabama on Wednesday. He also put up big numbers during his senior season with 23 touchdowns and 1,353 yards on 86 receptions.

The Pennsylvania product is an explosive athlete at 6-foot and 185 pounds. He is a threat to explode for six every time he gets the football which is why he got the football via screen passes and while lined up at running back. The Alabama signee is the type of wideout, who can turn short routes into huge gains with his ability to work after the catch.

Aeryn Hampton flipped his commitment from Texas to Alabama and signed with the Crimson Tide on National Signing Day. He made plays on the ground, in the air and on defense as a senior at Daingerfield High School. He wrapped up his senior campaign with 841 receiving yards, 299 rushing yards, six receiving touchdowns and three rushing scores, according to MaxPreps.

Nick Saban described Hampton as a ‘dog’ and senior film proved Saban was right on with his description of the Texas product.

While receivers are often called the divas of football, Hampton pushes that description away with the way he gets after the football as a defender. This physical playing style should serve him well at wide receiver with the edge he plays with. He is a quick prospect, who is hard to contain as he will fight for the football and extra yards.
