Breakdown of Alabama football’s early signing period tight end class

Alabama football signed a pair of 2024 tight ends on National Signing Day, strengthening the future of the position in Tuscaloosa.

Caleb Odom and Jay Lindsey both signed with the Crimson Tide last week. Both have the potential to be valuable players for Alabama in the future despite their different skill sets.

Odom is more of a receiving tight end with his experience at lining up out wide and being a reliable target for his quarterback. At 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, he runs routes like a wide receiver and presents a mismatch for defenders with his blend of size and athleticism. He will have an opportunity to grow into a weapon in the red zone and wherever he lines up.

His growth as a blocker with his hand in the dirt will determine how fast and how often he will get on the field in Tuscaloosa. If he can prove to be an effective blocker and contribute to the passing game, he could see playing time sooner than later.

Lindsey is more of a physical tight end, who enjoys dominating his opponent. He is solid at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, and he uses his strength to his advantage. The Patrician Academy product embraces the role of being an effective blocker as a tight end as he laid some nasty blocks during his high school career.

The senior is also an explosive athlete, who honestly would be a legit edge prospect if he wanted to pursue playing on the defensive side of the football.

Odom is currently with the Crimson Tide as they go through Rose Bowl prep. Lindsey will enroll in the summer.
