Alabama football has lost some players and coaches in Nick Saban’s retirement, but Kalen DeBoer is building a staff that should keep the majority of the team together.

Kane Wommack, 36, is expected to be the Crimson Tide’s next defensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Chris Low.

He was with DeBoer at Indiana University as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2019 and 2020. Wommack is familiar with the Southeastern Conference, playing at Arkansas (2005-06) and being a graduate assistant/safeties coach at the University of Mississippi (2012-13). He was at South Alabama (2021-23) for three seasons as its head coach, taking it to back-to-back bowl games in 2022 and 2023. He coached the Jaguars to a Sun Belt Western Division title in 2022 with a 10-3 record.
