IMG Academy 4-Star DL London Merritt looking forward to building relationship with new Alabama staff

London Merritt recently earned an Alabama offer from the Kanlen DeBoer staff, and the defensive lineman prospect is looking to learn more about the plans in Tuscaloosa.

Merritt currently attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, but he is a product of Georgia. The 2025 recruit is a consensus four-star recruit and is considered one of the nation’s top defensive lineman prospects.

DeBoer recently traveled to Florida and Merritt got a chance to meet the new Alabama head coach.

“I met coach DeBoer briefly when he came to IMG,” Merritt told Touchdown Alabama. “He seemed pretty cool. I did see that he has won everywhere he’s been, so that’s positive.”

Alabama’s running back coach Robert Gillespie has played a significant role in the Crimson Tide recruiting Merritt to this point. Retaining him and Freddie Roach looks to have Merritt still interested in the Crimson Tide.

“The good thing is that Coach Roach and Coach Gillespie are still there,” said Merritt. “Coach G was the guy that was recruiting me and got me in front of Coach Saban. Coach Roach would have been my position coach under Coach Saban, so I think he would know how to play me,” said Merritt.

The four-star is eyeing a visit to Alabama next month.

“I’ll probably be back up there in March and look forward to building a relationship with the new staff,” Merritt said.

Merritt is listed at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He is one of the most explosive defensive lineman prospects in the country with an explosively quick get-off. The Georgia product also displays great pursuit of the football when he is chasing down ball carriers.
