Even in retirement, former Alabama football coach, Nick Saban, is collecting hardware. On Tuesday, Saban was awarded a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent for his work as an analyst on ESPN’s College Gameday.

Outside of College Gameday, Saban has appeared on NFL Draft and SEC Media Days coverage.

On the Oct. 11 episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Saban revealed that his biggest fear getting out of coaching and retiring was not being a part of a team, and he said being on College Gameday allows him to still be a part of a team and stay connected to college football.

“I think the thing that I enjoy the most is that it keeps me involved in the game,” Saban said.

The six-time national champion is regarded as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, and that gives him the most credibility when he gives his analysis on subjects in the college football realm.

In his role as an analyst, Saban can still be a coach but in a different facet. When he was coaching Alabama, he said that he never paid attention to teams outside of his own and the opponent.

On College Gameday, Saban has a signature segment called “Coach Saban’s Film Room” where he can get the coaching juices flowing and share his distinctive insight.

Although Saban taps into his coaching mindset from time to time, fans have seen a different side of Saban since he joined the show. Pat McAfee could be a person to thank for that.

From eating a tomahawk steak out of McAfee’s hand to removing his red tie and waving it in the air to the cheers Cal fans, it looks like Saban is having a blast.

Saban’s second season on College Gameday will begin on Aug. 30. No week one site has been selected at this moment, but because the show is dedicating the episode to retiring College Gameday analyst Lee Corso, it is plausible that the crew will kick off the season in Tallahassee for Alabama-Florida State, Corso’s alma mater.
