ESPN released its Football Power Index (FPI) ratings on Tuesday, and it is high on Alabama football ahead of the 2025 season.

The rating system has the Crimson Tide ranked at No. 3 behind Texas and Georgia. It has Alabama’s projected win total at 9.6 and has the Tide’s chances to make the College Football Playoff at 66.2 percent, trailing Georgia, Texas and Ohio State.

ESPN defines the FPI system as  ‘a predictive rating system that estimates each FBS team’s strength (in points per game relative to the national average) on offense, defense and special teams, making adjustments for starters lost, recruiting talent and other personnel changes.’

Alabama went 9-4 in Kalen DeBoer’s first season and its looking to improve its win total in 2025.
