Alabama 4-Star DB commit showing why he should fit right in with Tide

Alabama football’s four-star defensive back commit, Zyan Gibson and Gadsden City were back in action on Thursday night to kick off their 2025 season.

Unfortunately for the Titans, they fell short to a talented Muscle Shoals team. While Gibson was not able to lead his team to a win, he did flash why Alabama really likes him as a future member of their roster.

Gibson is fast, and this is well documented. It is what many consider to be his biggest strength at the moment. He can run a 4.4 forty and can consistently clock in a sub-11-second 100-meter dash.

This speed aids him as a defensive back in coverage, as he can turn and run with wide receivers. He is also a threat in the return game and as a wide receiver for the Titans due to his speed. However, another element of his game, his ability to be explosive, helps him at is when he is getting after the football to make tackles.

Tackling is often seen as one of the most routine elements of football. This is where Gibson stood out to Touchdown Alabama on Thursday. While he was only targeted once, which resulted in an overthrow when he was in a good position to make a play on a ball, Gibson closed on the football quickly and showed great effort in run support on Thursday, sometimes having to come from across the field to make a tackle on runs away from him.

When the Alabama pledge made it to ball carriers, he did not only consistently make the tackle, he made his presence felt with some solid force behind his tackles.  This is an element of Gibson’s game that has not been highlighted as much, but it is definitely a promising sign.

Alabama wants versatile defensive backs, who can play multiple positions and can make tackles in space. Being a reliable tackler is a requirement to play defensive back for Alabama. Gibson has shown he can do that, and his future continues to look bright.
