In Alabama’s road victory over Missouri, the Crimson Tide kept their offense on the football field longer than they have in previous conference games, and this improves Alabama’s streak of winning the time of possession battle to three games.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer said that winning the time of possession battle by more than 17 minutes played a massive role in Saturday’s victory on the road and explained how that rattled the Tigers.
“Just not letting them get in a rhythm, not letting the run game wear you down and open up play action,” DeBoer said. “Our offense also staying on the football field time after time, you know, it just wears on them [Missouri] too, and there’s times I know we wanted to put more points on the board ourselves, but it’s part of the game when you play a team like this.”
The Crimson Tide dominated time of possession in this game. Alabama possessed the ball for 38 minutes and 33 seconds, compared to Missouri’s 21 minutes and 27 seconds.
Alabama has won the time of possession battle by 11 minutes or more in all three of its conference games this season.
The Third Saturday in October is approaching fast, and Alabama will need to keep Tennessee’s offense on the sidelines as much as they can to continue this streak of beating ranked SEC opponents and possessing the ball for over 35 minutes.
