Alabama football’s starting quarterback Ty Simpson let his offensive line and the entire Alabama offensive unit know he was not happy with their play as of late in an offensive meeting on Monday.
“He’s just a great leader, speaks all the time,” Kadyn Proctor told reporters on Tuesday. “Ripped out a** when we were in the team meeting yesterday. He knows how to get us riled up, and he’s a great leader.”
Simpson was sacked four times in Alabama’s last game, and the Missouri Tigers’ defense recorded seven tackles for loss against the Crimson Tide. Proctor, who starts at left tackle for Alabama, detailed what went into Simpson’s message on Tuesday.
“Just that we need to be better,” Proctor told reporters. “We still haven’t played a full game as an offensive line, as a quarterback, as any position. We haven’t played a shutout game, which is hard to do, but that’s what’s expected of us.”
Simpson was asked about his message by reporters after Proctor revealed what happened in the meeting, and he said he feels it is his responsibility to bring the best out of his teammates as a captain.
“I just kind of told how it was, how I felt as a leader,” Simpson said. “It’s my job to make sure that I get the best out of guys, I get the best out of myself, and I just feel like the last couple of games we hadn’t executed very well in some things. Just wanted to make sure that the guys understand what the standard is here and what the standard is of this offense”
Alabama football’s offense will look to right the ship this weekend against the Tennessee Vols Saturday on Saban Field in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CST, and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
