The whole nation understands how important football is in the South, especially in Alabama. Every school says the expectation is a championship, but Alabama is one of the few schools that make that statement and have some hardware already.
The Kalen DeBoer era of Alabama football kicked off in 2024 and featured disappointing losses on the road that kept the Crimson Tide out of the playoff. In 2025, the season began in horrible fashion with an embarrassing loss to Florida State, but Alabama has won every game since then.
Now that DeBoer has beaten a handful of challenging SEC opponents and proved a bunch of doubters wrong, does he finally feel more comfortable in his position as the head coach of Alabama?
On The Triple Option, DeBoer was asked if he had a particular moment where he’s felt comfortable as the head coach of Alabama football and how he’s adapting to living in Alabama.
“I’m not going to let myself get comfortable,” DeBoer said. “That’s the way you got to just keep attacking it. That’s the way it’s always been. It’s been the pressure you put on yourself. The pressure I’ve put on myself has always been so great and so high. I do. I love living here though. My family loves it. It’s fun when what you’re really passionate about is a priority and really important to the university, the people, your alumni, and getting the text from Mark [Ingram] and other guys that they’re proud means the world to me because that’s what I do this for. It’s for those that came before. Trying to make this place better for those that come after some time down the road. The experiences we’re giving these guys and in the meantime the life lessons they’re learning, it’s what leads to the winning because they are learning the process of work. They’re learning time management. They’re learning response to adversity and focusing on what you can control. We’re just in it right now. I’m going to keep it simple on the things that have got me to this point and continue to build on how I can do things better, how I can help our staff do things better and of course our team as well.”
Alabama and DeBoer return to action Saturday when the Tide host LSU.
