Why Ty Simpson called his performance against LSU ‘kind of brutal’

Ty Simpson led the Alabama Crimson Tide to a 20-9 victory over LSU on Saturday night, but it was not a dominant or pretty win for the Alabama offense.

Simpson finished the game with 277 yards, while completing 21 of his 35 attempts. He failed to connect with several of his wide receivers throughout the game, specifically when targeting them down the field. The signal caller could not find a rhythm throughout the night.

When a reporter asked him about the missed connections after the game, Simpson called his performance ‘kind of brutal.’

“There was a couple that were underthrown, there was a couple that were overthrown, just kind of didn’t find the great rhythm, being honest,” Simpson said. “That’s something we need to work on in practice. But, hey, we still threw for 200 something yards, so, but yeah, it’s something we definitely need to work on.”

Fortunately for Ty Simpson and company, they were able to lean on their defense to escape with the win. The Alabama defense held the Tigers to nine points and kept them out of the endzone. The performance helped Alabama improve to 8-1 with the victory, despite its offense struggling.

This is something Simpson knows can not happen on a consistent basis.

“I’m going to be brutally honest,” Simpson told reporters. “That’s not up to our standard. Everybody knows that. Everybody on offense knows that. But that’s why we have a good defense. So, we got to come out next week, playing a good Oklahoma team off a bye week. They’re going to have some stuff for us.”

Alabama will get back to work after enjoying its win over LSU for 24 hours. Oklahoma is set to take on the Tide at home next weekend in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
