Ryan Grubb says Alabama has to account for Oklahoma possibly knowing signs

Lane Kiffin previously stated he felt Oklahoma’s defense was playing as if they knew what plays were coming, and Kiffin hinted at them knowing their opponents’ signs.

Kiffin eventually reworded his thoughts after he said this and referred to the Sooners’ staff as great ‘information gatherers.’ Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was asked about Kiffin’s statement Monday ahead of the Crimson Tide facing the Sooners in a top-25 matchup.

“They’re good at that,” Grubb said while laughing. “Number one and number two, we’re changing everything. So if Coach Vernables is listening, just know they’re all changing. But they do everything within the parameters of the game, though, and they’re, you know, nothing illegal about what they do. They’re good at what they do. So, certainly I take that in consideration.”

Kalen DeBoer was also asked about Kiffin’s statement.

“You’re going to have to adjust,” Deboer said. “I think across the board, across the country, there’s some element of every team doing something. I think our staff does a pretty good job, but you certainly got to make sure you’re always doing your best to change things up. We no huddle. There’s a lot of different things we do, too. We just got to continue to do what we’ve done, not just this year, but years past as well.”

Oklahoma currently has one of the best defenses in the country under Venables, giving up only 14 points per game. Alabama will look to have some success against the stingy unit on Saturday.
