Former Alabama quarterback, AJ McCarron is not buying the chatter surrounding Kalen DeBoer being a potential candidate for the Michigan job.
McCarron compares the prospect of DeBoer leaving Alabama for Michigan to leaving a well-oiled machine for a situation filled with chaos, following the firing and arrest of Sherrone Moore to go along with the Wolverines’ previous sign-stealing scandal.
“I don’t understand, and it’s not a knock on Michigan, but you’re the number one seed in the SEC,” McCarron said. “You’re the biggest brand in the SEC. The SEC is the best conference in college football year in and year out. I don’t know if you could say the same thing for Michigan right now, being in the Big 10. Is Michigan what Michigan used to be from a program standpoint? And then everything that’s going on there, I don’t know if you’d leave a well-oiled machine situation and go into that chaos. I think the biggest thing for him is showing a difference from the way they’ve been playing this past four weeks to going into Norman facing a team that you faced already, an opponent that you know, show that this team is ready to take the next step. That’s the biggest thing for him.”
Alabama and DeBoer are working to prepare for the first round of the College Football Playoff against the Sooners. Kickoff for the matchup is set for 7 p.m. CST on Dec. 19.
