Former Alabama players continue to grow their coaching careers in college football.
Maurice Smith, who played for the Crimson Tide from 2013-15, has joined Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia according to a report from CBS Sports. Smith was one of several players who joined Smart at Georgia in 2016 where he played his final season in college during Smart’s first with the Bulldogs.
During his lone season at Georgia, Smith turned in a career best season recording 50 total tackles, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. While at Alabama, Smith was primarily a rotational player in Nick Saban’s secondary posting 35 total tackles, two tackles for loss, five pass deflections and an interception across three seasons.
He was a contributor during the Crimson Tide’s national championship season in 2015 where it defeated Clemson.
Smith would lated go undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft but had stops in his career with the Miami Dolphins in 2017-18, the Washington Redskins in 2019, and the Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans in 2020.
