Alabama fans strike conversation as Seahawks win Super Bowl after firing Ryan Grubb

The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl LX in dominant fashion, and the team won the big one with a new offensive coordinator who replaced Ryan Grubb.

Grubb was fired from his offensive coordinator role after spending one year in Seattle, and the Seahawks replaced him with Klint Kubiak. The other significant change the Seahawks made was replacing Geno Smith with Sam Darnold, and this first-year offensive coordinator/quarterback duo won it all.

This result has caused some Alabama fans to ponder the reasons that the Seahawks won the championship and contemplate whether it is a good or bad idea to keep Grubb as the offensive coordinator for Alabama after the team had a nearly non-existent run game.

In 2024, the Seahawks, much like the Crimson Tide in 2025, failed to run the football effectively. Seattle ranked 28th in rushing yards per game, and the Seahawks finished this current season ranked 2nd in the NFL.

In 2025, Alabama ranked near the bottom of the SEC in rushing yards per game, finishing 15th in this statistic in the conference.

A lot of pressure will be on Alabama and Grubb in 2026 to break this bad streak of failed rushing offenses. The fans in Tuscaloosa are noticing the patterns, and it has been a while since Alabama has captured a championship, so the fans are getting a little restless watching a team that fired Grubb go on and win the big one.

As far as personnel changes go, the Crimson Tide did fire offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic and hire Adrian Klemm. The offensive line itself will have four new starters for sure, possibly five. The running back room will be an open contest for all willing to compete. Returning players like Daniel Hill, AK Dear and Kevin Riley will go at it with freshman Ezavier Crowell.

It seems like the blame was put on the players up front, then the extra blame was put on the offensive line coach. If Alabama struggles again this season, the fans will likely place more of the blame on Grubb and pile on more blame than he has already received.

The bigger picture is that the Kalen DeBoer era of Alabama football is going to be heavily criticized if the Crimson Tide fail to figure out how to return to dominance up front. With the way coaches were thrown onto the coaching carousel this past year, the urgency to fix the issues in the run game is climbing, but that is something that needs to be explained to the Alabama staff as they probably feel it in their guts.
