Kalen DeBoer gives thoughts on College Football Playoff expanding

Kalen DeBoer gave his thoughts on the College Football Playoff possibly expanding to include more teams at the SEC Spring Meetings.

One of the major storylines circulating at the 2026 meetings is the playoff, including more than 12 teams in the future. Sankey and the SEC are reportedly favoring a 16-team playoff format, while the other major conferences are leaning towards as big as a 24-team playoff.

DeBoer gave his thoughts while talking to reporters.

“I think you can make an argument for all of them,” DeBoer said. “For me, it’s not really about a number. It’s about just trying to win every football game, so you don’t have to put it in a committee’s hands.”

The Crimson Tide made the playoff in DeBoer’s second year as Alabama’s head football coach last season after going 10-2 in the regular season and losing in the SEC Championship. Alabama extended DeBoer’s contract after his second season, and he is set to met $12.5 million a year under his contract extension.
