Alabama running back commit tells why he is locking all the way in with Tide

Tai Phillips is locking all the way in with Alabama football after officially visiting the Crimson Tide over the weekend.

Phillips is a 2027 running back prospect out of Irmo High School in South Carolina, and he is one of two 2027 backs verbally committed to Alabama. The rising senior is feeling even better about his decision to commit to Alabama after his official visit.

“Getting to sit down with the players and the coaches and seeing them more in a natural setting,” Phillips said when asked what really stood out during his official visit. “We were all having talks like we would have any other day, really just like getting to know each other a lot more. Definitely one other thing was seeing how much everybody really loves the game. It was really good to see a lot of like-minded people.”

Alabama beat out Florida State and Stanford to grab a commitment from Phillips. The Tide’s push to get to know him as a player and as a person played a vital role in his decision.

“I really feel like it was more than football with them,” Phillips told Touchdown Alabama. “It was a lot of coaches that wanted to get to know me more as a person than just as a player on the football field. That always stuck out to me, and really that’s a lot of things that they continue doing. They just continue doing things that really stick out to me.”

At 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, Phillips is a tenacious and explosive runner of the football who displays patience and vision while looking for space as he blocks develop. He reports a 4.26 40-yard dash time, and one can see flashes of his explosive speed when he presses the gas and explodes onto the open field after getting a carry.

The Alabama commit is looking to be a more physical back in the fall.

“I feel like my playmaking ability and just my physicality, there’s stuff I can work on with that, definitely work on my playmaking ability, be able to make something out of nothing,” said Phillips.
