Alabama football’s newest commit recruiting 6-foot-4 cornerback for Tide

Anthony Blalock committed to Alabama football on Monday, and he is already recruiting for the Crimson Tide.

Blalock is starting to recruit Alius Mayo, a 2027 junior college defensive back who attends Modesto Junior College in Stockton, California. His offer list includes offers from Alabama, Cal, Louisville and others.

The Tide offered Mayo in June and immediately hosted him for an official visit. The fairly new Alabama target walked away from his official visit confident in Alabama’s player development. He walked away from his official visit with the Tide feeling good about the Tide’s cornerback development.

“My biggest takeaway was that Alabama has a blueprint for getting cornerbacks to the league,” Mayo told Touchdown Alabama.

The Tide has continued to show interest in Mayo since his official visit. If the Tide can land him, he should be a perfect fit in Alabama’s secondary.

The 6-foot-4 defensive back is a long and athletic cornerback who possesses a large cover radius with his long arms. That physical trait allows him to consistently play through the hands of pass catchers as a defender. His highlights are filled with plenty of pass breakups. He also possesses the ability to make tackles in space, which is something the Tide prioritizes on all levels of its defense, especially in the secondary.
