Transfer linebacker is playing violent ‘all over the place’ in fall camp for Alabama

Alabama football’s linebacker Caleb Woodson continues to show why he is a transfer addition the Crimson Tide could lean on this fall.

Woodson transferred to Alabama from Virginia Tech after the 2025 football season. He earned several starts as a Hokie and immediately became the most experienced linebacker on the Crimson Tide’s roster when he decided to transfer and join the Crimson Tide.

Alabama football Wolf linebacker Justin Hill was asked how violent Caleb Woodson is after Alabama football’s Friday practice.

“He is all over the place,” Hill said. “His weight, his speed, he is what you want in a backer, can fly around and hit people.”

Being more aggressive is something the Tide’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack wants to see out of his inside linebackers.

“I think one thing that we wanted to make sure if that we’re more aggressive from the backing corp,” Wommack said. “You know guys getting downhill and being more aggressive at the line of scrimmage and I think those guys have really taken heart to that.”

Wommack told reporters Friday he thinks the Tide’s defensive line has gotten bigger and made improvements. He feels these changes will impact the play of the Tide’s linebackers in 2026.

““Those young linebackers, they don’t know anything different so they follow suit,” Wommack said. “They work their ass off. They live in the building. It’s been really great to see their development. Some of the improvements that we’ve made on the D-line this offseason certainly helps that linebacker room as well.”
