Former Alabama player suspended three games by the NFL

The National Football League is suspending former Alabama defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis for three games, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The 28-year-old is being suspended for violating the NFL’s substances of abuse policy.

Mathis currently plays for the Buffalo Bills and has been battling to make their 53-man roster, and now, he’s being suspended.

The Washington Commanders drafted Mathis with the 49th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been on the Commanders, Jets and Bills so far in his career.

Mathis is eligible to play in the preseason. His will suspension will begin on Aug. 30, and he will be eligible for reinstatement on Sept. 28. He will sit out games against the Houston Texans (Sept. 13), Detroit Lions (Sept. 17) and Los Angeles Chargers (Sept. 27).
