Who will Alabama to lean on to rush the passer outside of Yhonzae Pierre?

Alabama football has one of the best returning pass rushers in college football at its disposal in Yhonzae Pierre.

The talented edge defender is coming off a season where he had eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. He is expected to be one of the best at getting after quarterback once again this season.

However, the Crimson Tide would love to have other pass rushers who can get home. Alabama’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack was asked about those others pass rushers on Wednesday when he was presented with a question asking who was his second best pass rusher.

“That’s a good question,” Wommack said. “I think we’ve got a number of guys that I’m excited about. You know, obviously Yhonzae is kind of the most experienced guy in the room, and I think he’s taken his game to another level, so I’m excited to see that in real time on game day. I think Devan Thompkins does a really good job. I think Desmond Zulu (Umeozulu) brings a lot to the table there. Excited about a young guy in Xavier Griffin and what he brings to the table similar to we use Jihaad (Campbell) in a number of different ways, and then I think he kind of has that similar skill set, an outside linebacker background with being able to play the inside linebacker position as well. There’s a couple of guys in Kevonte Henry and Justin Hill, that bring different varieties to the table. So I mean, you kind of got to see, like, who’s the hot hand, right? Who’s the guy that when the bullets are flying are gonna step up? But certainly if you look at Devan’s career, you look at Dez Zulu and, and then obviously Yhonzae, those guys are the most experienced to this point.”

The ability to get after the passer is something ever defensive coordinator would love for his defenders to be able to do. A lot of eyes will be on who shine a there for the Tide this season.
