Mal Waldrep made his first career start at center against Tennessee on Saturday, and he could be set to start again for the Tide against Texas A&M.

Racin Delgatty, who usually starts at center for Alabama, is listed as questionable ahead of Saturday’s game. He missed the Tide’s last game against Tennessee.

Kalen DeBoer was asked about Waldrep on “Hey Coach” Wednesday, and he shared that the offensive lineman is continuing to work at center this week.

“We feel, Mal is a guy that can be a very good, not just a good center, but an offensive lineman for us,” DeBoer said. “And obviously the center position is where he’s focused at last week, very focused on that this week as well. So, as far as his assessment, I thought there was a lot of really good things he did, getting out there and doing it for the first time in real live action when the bullets were flying. He’s gonna get better. We always talk about week one to week two and for a team or a guy who started the season. I mean, we talked a lot about that with Keelon back in week one, week two, and what he needed to improve in, guys are gonna do that. I think Mal, he should look at it and say, you know, see some things where there should be confidence that he’s built. And obviously, because I know he’s got some areas to improve. He can be the most critical guy himself. You don’t need that from the outside world, but we’re helping him accomplish and get better every day.”

Waldrep allowed zero pressure and committed zero penalties against the Vols last week, according to Pro Football Focus.
