Alabama football’s recruiting budget may be getting a bit bigger really soon as there will no longer be a limit on the number of official visits a prospect can take.
The NCAA’s Division I Council made the decision this week new recruiting visit rules will go into effect on July 1. Prospects were previously allowed to only take five official visits. An official visit is defined as visits, which are paid for by the school. Those expenses could include transportation, lodging, meals and entertainment.
The chair of the Division I Council Lynda Tealer said she feels the new rules will help modernize college recruiting.
“For young people considering where to go to college, visits to campus – both official and unofficial – are an integral part of the decision-making process,” Tealer said. “This was an opportunity to modernize NCAA rules in a way that provides greater and more meaningful opportunities for prospects going through the recruitment process.”
The Crimson Tide’s coaching staff and most of the top programs in college football are selective when it comes to giving out official visits. They will most likely continue to be selective by giving out official visits to their top targets.
However, this change does favor recruits, especially the highly-touted ones. Elite prospects will have an opportunity to take a crazy amount of visits, which will most likely become the norm under this new set of rules.
