Alabama LB Qua Russaw making strides to play versus Georgia

Jeff Hanisch - USA Today Sports

A College Football Playoff atmosphere will be on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium this weekend.

ESPN’s College GameDay and Presidential Candidate Donald Trump will be in attendance for Alabama’s Southeastern Conference showdown against Georgia. Both teams get an opportunity to see where they are in relation to an SEC Championship shot and the CFP. Qua Russaw, a redshirt freshman, was one of a few players that got banged up for the Crimson Tide versus Wisconsin in Alabama’s 42-10 victory. The former five-star suffered a lower body injury, but Kalen DeBoer provided an update Monday on Russaw’s progress. The Montgomery (Ala.) native has eight tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hurry at the Wolf position as an outside linebacker.

“He’s still taking (recovery) steps,” DeBoer said. “I’m optimistic with Qua. We’ll just have to evaluate what we see as we go through the week.”

Russaw can be a significant piece to Alabama’s pass rush to Georgia’s quarterback, Carson Beck.

The Crimson Tide has to be able to affect Beck in the passing game and get him off rhythm. The 6-foot-2, 251-pound linebacker can execute that for Alabama in frustrating Beck. Russaw is making strides, but the Tide is hopeful he will play against the Bulldogs.
