While Alabama has struggled in several different areas this season, one area they have not struggled in is protecting the quarterback.
The Crimson Tide have allowed just seven sacks over the course of the first five games of the season. Last year, Alabama allowed 20 sacks in the first five games of the season. Clearly, an emphasis has been made on making things easier for quarterback Jalen Milroe to navigate the offense.
Alabama’s offensive line could be put to the test for the first time this season, however.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are led defensively by edge rushers, Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart. Kennard leads the SEC with 5.5 sacks. Stewart sits at 10th in the conference with 3.5 sacks. Interior defensive linemen T.J. Sanders and Tonka Hemingway each have a sack as well.
South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White will look to make things difficult on Alabama’s offense. If the Gamecocks pass rushers can create pressure, it will make things more difficult for the Crimson Tide offense. Alabama’s offensive line will need to bring their A-game in order to neutralize the number of pressures that the Gamecocks record in Saturday’s contest.
