Meet Alabama football’s new weapon at punter Blake Doud

Fans during A-Day at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday, Apr 13, 2024.

During the offseason, Alabama added transfer punter Blake Doud. The Division II transfer is sure to fight for the starting spot during the spring. He will compete for the starting spot with fellow teammate Alex Asparuhov. One thing that could give Doud a competitive advantage in the competition battle is his experience and ability to flip the field.

Doud spent four seasons with the Orediggers. In 2023 and 2024, Doud was named a First-Team All-American by the Associated Press. In 2024, he led Division II in average yards per punt at 46.6. The Colorado native has a big leg and will look to display that during his time in Tuscaloosa.

He will look to follow in the footsteps of Australia native and former Alabama punter James Burnip. Burnip is heading to the NFL after a strong final season at The Capstone.

In the past two seasons, Doud had 84 punts for 3,876 yards and averaged 46.1 yards per punt. His longest punt was 80 yards.

Whether Doud wins the starting spot or not, he could be a valuable weapon down the stretch for the Crimson Tide during the 2025 season. It will be interesting to see how he fares in his final college season at Alabama.
