Alabama’s freshmen class came in with a lot of hype and high expectations. Early on, Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is impressed with the mentality that the incoming freshmen have shown since arriving on campus.

“Some of these freshmen, it amazes me. I think about where was I in the head space at 18 years old about my freshman year of college at the University of Arkansas. I wasn’t anywhere close to where some of these guys are in terms of athletically, obviously, but more so from a standpoint of just their mentality. These guys come with a mentality that they’re ready to work.”

Alabama signed one of the top recruiting classes in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The Crimson Tide signed 21 prospects on early national signing day in December. 18 of the 21 signees are early enrollees and participating in spring practices. The other three will arrive on campus during the summer.

The group is headlined by quarterback Keelon Russell, cornerback Dijon Lee Jr., and offensive lineman Michael Carroll.

There will be multiple true freshmen that will have the opportunity to make a name for themselves this spring. There are multiple position battles going on this spring, and several freshmen figure to be in the thick of things heading into the 2025 season.

Needless to say, it is interesting to hear Wommack’s early comments regarding the freshmen class. He capped his answer off by discussing what some of the freshmen are doing to catch his attention.

“I walk down the defensive staff room, and there’s freshmen in every single coach’s office,” Wommack said, “That’s a testament to our coaching staff, but it’s also a testament to the freshmen.”
