Ty Simpson took a couple of massive hits in the Iron Bowl from the Auburn defense, and a few of the hits resulted in penalties.
The hit that went viral on social media platforms was the one where Simpson was running to his left down the Alabama sideline, and Auburn defensive back Sylvester Smith delivered a heck of a hit to Simpson’s head in the red zone.
On an earlier drive, Simpson also took a shot to the head from Auburn’s Jahquez Robinson that resulted in a roughing the passer penalty, but the referees upgraded it to a targeting penalty and ejected Robinson. There was also a play where Simpson was hit below the knees by a few Auburn players, leading to an official throwing the flag for a roughing the passer penalty.
On Tuesday’s SEC Players Teleconference, Simpson commented on how he is feeling physically after taking a few rough hits in the Iron Bowl.
“Yeah, got to love getting hit right?” Simpson said with a chuckle. “Everybody at this point of the season, everybody is sore. I feel great. I’m ready to roll. What a great opportunity. So fired up to play in a game like this and so blessed.”
Alabama is preparing for the SEC Championship and will play Georgia for a second time this season. The winner of this game will punch a ticket to the College Football Playoff.
The Georgia Bulldogs are a physical team and will send their best players on a mission to pressure or bring down Simpson. With the physical rematch on the horizon, Simpson shared what the message is to the offense.
“Our message to the offense is what a great opportunity,” Simpson said. “We need to go get it, you know? Our message as a team is pretty much just it’s all about us, right? It’s about nobody else, it’s all about what we do, how we go throughout practice, how we go through meetings, how our mindset is. That’s what it’s been all season of just how we do everything, how we do anything. It starts with our head coach, and it goes down to everybody. Our message is all about us. It’s all about what we do and nobody else.”
