DeBoer feels Alabama knocked it out the park with 2 cornerback signees

Fans of the Crimson Tide have seen superior play from the cornerback position for years, and after the first day of the 2026 early signing period, it looks as though head coach Kalen DeBoer has no plans of letting that change.

Cornerback coach Mo Linguist has been essential in helping recruit the cornerback position, alongside defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and DeBoer, and it was another successful year as they secured two top cornerbacks in the class.

Jorden Edmonds is one of two cornerbacks that the Tide was able to sign this recruiting cycle, and he is rated as a four-star and top-five cornerback in the nation, hailing out of Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. Alabama was battling against in-state Georgia at the start, but the Tide was Edmonds’ favorite for most of his recruitment.

Alabama also managed to sign four-star Zyan Gibson, an Alabama native out of Gadsden City High School. Gibson has great speed and good length, which allows him to excel in man coverage. The Crimson Tide also had to battle with Auburn for the cornerback, but took the lead in his recruitment early on. He and Edmonds also played wide receiver in high school.

The Tide did face a scare with him earlier in the week, though, as it was announced that he was decommitting from Alabama, but within 90 minutes, he retracted the decommitment and announced he’d still be signing on Wednesday.

After DeBoer and the Tide had both commits put pen to paper on Wednesday, he spoke about the role that coach Linguist played in their recruitment, as well as what they’ll bring to Tuscaloosa.

“Coach Mo continues to just knock it out of the park with the recruitment of our corners,” DeBoer said. “You don’t need a lot of them if you’ve got the right ones. And to me, we got the right ones: Zyan and Jorden. You know, they’re really not that much different. I mean, the standout piece with Jorden is that he’s extremely tall, but Zyan’s got great size, too. And both of them, very athletic, multi-sport guys. Jorden is a guy that can play both sides of the ball, very versatile that way. And so, just extremely athletic guys that are instinctual, playmakers, just guys that attack it and attack on the football field. And so, really excited about what Zyan and Jorden are going to do. Those guys committed both in the summer. I think we really saw them as the two corners in the class moving forward and staying committed to that, and that makes life a lot easier for us because we can focus on other areas. So, I appreciate these two; really looking forward to them continuing on what we’ve been doing the last couple of years at the corner position.”

With cornerbacks Zabien Brown, former five-star Dijon Lee, Cam Calhoun and others still expected to be on the roster next year, the Crimson Tide is just reloading an already loaded and highly talented cornerback room.

Alabama fans should expect no slowing down from the Tide on the defensive side of the ball, both in terms of recruiting and on-the-field play; the standard of talented, physical Alabama defenses won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
