Nate Oats sends message to Alabama fans after low attendance for season opener

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Sam Houston by a final score of 96-74 during their season opener on Tuesday evening.

The Tide were able to handle the Bearkats with ease earlier this week despite an ice cold start on the offensive end of the floor. Alabama as a team shot 32% from behind the arc, while also being out rebounded by Sam Houston 45-42.

In addition to the Tide’s slow start, Coleman Coliseum appeared to have an alarmingly low attendance rate on Tuesday with all things considered. Alabama head coach Nate Oats took a moment to send a message to Tide fans on Thursday regarding the matter.

“Look, we’ve got a five game home stand, and we need Crimson Chaos, but we need everybody else, not just them.” Oats said. “We need the student section completely full on Friday night, and then we need everybody else that’s got tickets to make sure that they’re using the tickets, whether they’re coming or they’re sending somebody in their place. But we need people in the stands, and we’re going to have a long stretch where we’re not at home.”

Alabama will face Arkansas State, Oakland, Seton Hall and Kennesaw State across the final four games of their first home stand this season. Friday night’s matchup against Arkansas State will more than likely draw a much bigger crowd opposed to Tuesday’s season opener, and the Tide will look to keep things rolling after a dominating performance against the Bearkats earlier this week.
