Alabama’s senior linebacker Denzel Devall will miss an entire spring practice, due to a leg injury. The injury occurred in Alabama’s meeting against Ole Miss last season. Devall had surgery on his left leg, and has been seen in a black, non-contact jersey during practices. He missed six games in 2014, yet posted 11 tackles with two solo stops.
Devall’s return adds more pass rushers to Alabama’s defense, but with Ryan Anderson, Dillon Lee and Rashaan Evans all emerging, it will be interesting to see how much playing time Devall will see. He’s played in 35 career games, totaling 59 tackles and five sacks.
Devall was a solid contributor as a sophomore in 2013. He saw action in 13 games (three starts) at jack linebacker. Devall recorded 30 tackles, three sacks, three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup.
He appeared in 14 games as a freshman in 2012. Devall chimed in with 18 tackles (seven solo stops), two sacks and three quarterback hurries. He was a member of Alabama’s 2012 Southeastern Conference title and national championship team.
Devall, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 252 pounds, can generate pressure as a linebacker or defensive end. He explodes off the ball well, and uses his leverage to gain an advantage over opposing offensive linemen. Devall’s experience gives him an edge, but he must avoid the injury bug next season.
