Nelson is a product of Los Alamitos High School in Anaheim, California. Nelson’s latest offer from Alabama is his sixth Divison 1 football offer. Sarkisian had been in contact with Nelson’s coaches for some time.
“Coach (Steve) Sarkisian has been in contact with a couple of my coaches,” Nelson said. “He was motoring my progress and watching my film for a month or so before he made my offer official.”
The California product has great respect for Alabama, but his biggest connection to the program is through the future of Alabama’s quarterback room as Alabama’s 5-Star quarterback commit, Bryce Young, is one of Nelson’s friends and his role model.
“Alabama football speaks for itself, they are the No. 1 team in the land and have tons of history,” Nelson said. “It was crazy to receive an offer from them. I could not stop smiling. I am humbled and honored to say the least. It is also cool because of the connection I have with Bryce young, who I look up to. We train at the same gym and have the same QB coach, Danny Hernandez.”
Nelson currently stands at 6-3 and weighs 175 pounds. He has a huge upside as he is only a freshman and possesses some of the skills of a much older quarterback with his arm strength and decision making.
There is no visit date set for Nelson to visit Alabama, but he is excited to get down to Tuscaloosa in the future.
“I want to make it out to their camps this summer to see the campus and really start developing my relationship with the staff and see where things go,” Nelson said.
Alabama and Sarkisian have put themselves in good position wit Nelson by offering him early in his recruitment as he is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks in th 2023 recruiting class.
