Jerry Jeudy on why he decided to play in the Citrus Bowl vs. Michigan

Following the loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, there were many questions surrounding the Alabama football team. Mainly, who would and would not be playing in the team’s eventual bowl game down the line.

Shortly following the loss wide receiver Jerry Jeudy announced that he would be playing in the game and on Thursday further explained his decision.

I had no second thoughts about it,” said Jeudy during the team’s player interviews. “I really knew whatever bowl game we played in that I would be playing, so I didn’t any second guesses. I just know no matter what game it is, we’re going to play in it, it’s football. I didn’t take it in no way as a bowl game, I took it as another game so we can just get better and compete.

“That’s why we play this game, to compete.”

Jeudy’s decision to take the field against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl was the popular choice amongst the team as nearly all of Alabama’s draft-eligible players will be playing in the bowl. Just two members of the Crimson Tide will not be participating throughout the game in cornerback Trevon Diggs and outside linebacker Terrell Lewis.

Both players have a history of injury and although there was never any confirmation as the reason behind them sitting out, Jeudy does not have the thought of injury on his mind.

“We play football. Injuries happen,” said Jeudy. “So, if I didn’t get injured the whole season, why would I get injured during this game? I’m not really thinking about injuries or anything like that. I just go out there and play football like I have been doing this whole year.”

The junior led the Crimson Tide in receptions in 2019 with 71 and was second on the team with 959 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He is also rated as the number one receiver in the draft according to ESPN NFL scouting analyst Todd McShay.
