It has been said by common people, leaders of small communities and known figures in athletics, both college and professional.
The task of social distancing has been placed on everyone in this time of the coronavirus pandemic, and another decision was made on Friday to hopefully ensure the global crisis does not spread. According to Kay Ivey, governor of the state of Alabama, she issued a stay-at-home order for all residents. For a state driven by college football, the primary question being asked right now is will we even have a football season? Despite the votes of positivity, Ivey sees it happening on one condition: if residents take COVID-19 seriously and stay home.
The order goes into effect on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
“If you are eager for a fall football season coming up, what we’re doing today gives us a better chance of being able to do that as well,” Ivey told reporters, per Alabama Political Reporter Chip Brownlee. “Alabama football can come back sooner if residents follow stay-at-home order.”
Prior to Ivey’s statement, there have been multiple commercials on ESPN among other networks that have stressed the importance of safety. Both collegiate and professional athletes have been outspoken on social media, and now people have started the pledge: stay at home, save football.

With the leader of Alabama speaking out, hopefully everyone takes heed and we can return to normalcy and the enjoyment of sports.
