Alabama Football 2021 Spring Preview: Jalen Milroe

Jalen Milroe during visit to Alabama

Spring football returns to the University of Alabama on Friday.

Fans of the Crimson Tide are excited for this edition of athletes taking the field, as Nick Saban and the program look to repeat as national champions. With 15 practice sessions – including the A-Day Game – the staff writers for Touchdown Alabama Magazine will provide in-depth previews on marquee players.

We continue to look at the offense, and the first early enrollee we will profile is Jalen Milroe.

-Classification: Freshman

-Hometown: Katy, TX

-Height: 6-foot-2

-Weight: 201 pounds

-Strengths: Mobility, IQ, Athleticism, Arm Strength

-Weaknesses: Consistency

-Summary:

While Bryce Young and Paul Tyson may get a bulk of the attention this Spring, Jalen Milroe could be the dark horse in the quarterback battle brewing in Tuscaloosa.

The Tompkins High School product was one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2021 recruiting class. He is an athletic signal-caller, who can get it done in multiple ways. Although he is able to make some impressive plays with his feet when carrying the football, Milroe prefers to use his speed to extend plays and attack down the field.

The Texas product is poise in the pocket and displayed a high-level of comfortableness when going through his reads at the high school level. Tompkins head football coach Todd McVey spoke highly of Milroe’s improvement at working through his progressions doing his senior season.

His arm strength is another impressive part of Milroe’s overall game. He has a nice touch on his deep ball and has  good ball placement when throwing the football across the middle in tight holes.

At 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, Milroe has a good build for a Power 5 quarterback.

Watch Jalen Milroe Highlights Below:

The chances of Milroe pushing to possibly be Alabama’s starting quarterback will rely heavily on how fast he adjusts to the speed of college football and learns Alabama’s playbook while still adjusting to a new environment. Less than five months ago, he was leading the Tompkins Falcon’s offense.
